Rama calls on city mayors for continued unity

CEBU, Philippines — The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) National president, Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, once again has called on fellow mayors to remain united moving forward for peace, as well as for their programs.

Rama stressed on his call for unity during the start of LCP’s 4th convergence meeting at NuStar Cebu Hotel at the South Road Properties yesterday.

In his message, Rama said he is glad to see over 50 mayors of highly urbanized and independent cities all over the country coming over for the two-day event while the rest were in attendance via Zoom.

“I am very proud to lead this league. We are not a bunch of cowards. Yes, there was an issue, and we made our call to be united to support this government. Never again that there will be disunity while I’m the president (of the LCP),” Mayor Rama stressed, as he emphasized on the need to stick together.

“Always remember, we can never afford separation. Another EDSA,” Mayor Rama said, adding that they should be fighting for peace, progress and unity and sustainability.

Rama also stressed on the importance of adopting to innovation.

“It’s not easy when you make a stand, but it’s worse when you die without making a stand. Let us continue to work together, adopt changes…moving forward for prosperity, peace and progress,” Mayor Rama went on saying.

He also said he will not allow for the LCP to be used for other reasons.

“Let this league be a league that is listened to. Let this league be respected. I cannot allow a league being used, to show fear, but we should only respect each other,” said Mayor Rama.

Along with this, the Mayor also reminded fellow mayors and other LGU officials the virtue of servanthood, aside from honoring, inspiring and empowering others, “to live with simplicity, to serve with sincerity and leave with a legacy.”

Mayor Rama, in an interview with reporters said, aside from innovation-sharing and best practices, they also discussed the Mandanas ruling, as well as some concerns about DSWD’s programs especially on the Assistance to Individual in crisis Situation (AICS). (BANAT NEWS)
