Four others to get theirs soon: 29 Cebu City barangays receive new dump trucks
CEBU, Philippines — Twenty-nine selected barangay now have brand-new dump trucks expected to help them deliver different services in their respective communities following a turn-over ceremony yesterday as part of the city’s 87th Charter Day celebration.
The recipient barangays are Adlaon, Babag, Banilad, Binaliw, Busay, Buot, Capitol Site, Cogon-Pardo, Kasambagan, Kamputhaw, Kalunasan, Lorega-San Miguel, Luz, Mabini, Poblacion Pardo, Pulangbato, Punta Princesa, Paril, Pit-os, Quiot, San Antonio, Sapangdaku, Sawang Calero, Sudlon II, Sirao, San Roque, Sambag II, Sinsin, and Zapatera.
Four more barangays will also get a dump truck each, but on a later date. However, the names of these barangays have not been disclosed.
Liga ng mga Barangay president and ex-officio city councilor Franklyn Ong thanked Mayor Michael Rama for the city government’s gift to the barangays.
“There is no more fitting day for the turnover of the brand-new truck, as we are also celebrating the 87th Charter Day sa atong Cebu City. Birthday sa atong city, birthday sad sa mga barangay,” Ong said.
“On behalf of all barangay officials, mayor, we would like to thank you for recognizing the importance and the vital role of the barangays as frontliners in delivering the basic services to the community,” he added.
Mayor Rama said that they have several parameters, aside from his own prerogative, to determine which barangays get dump trucks. The barangays that have not received a new dump truck still have serviceable ones or are requesting for other projects to be given to them instead.
The mayor also revealed that he is working on a plan that will make the city a “super city” and all of the 80 barangays “city-like barangays”.
“I already have the working paper, the direction (for the plan),” the mayor said during yesterday’s press conference. However, he said he will discuss the details of such a plan at another time. — (FREEMAN)
