Capitol inaugurates road projects in Dalaguete

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial government inaugurated P126.7 million-worth of road projects around Mantalongon, Dalaguete.

Led by Governor Gwen Garcia, among the newly inaugurated projects is the concreted phase III of Mantalongon–Dugyan Road.

Mantalongon is known as “Cebu’s Little Baguio” or the “Summer Capital of Cebu” because of its cool climate all year round. The famous Osmeña Peak, Cebu’s highest peak, is located in Mantalongon. With the concreted road sections, it hopes to provide convenience to tourists who would want to embark on a trekking adventure in the famous mountain.

Most importantly, the project is aimed to help farmers as they transport their produce from the mountains of Dalaguete. The town is labeled the “Vegetable Basket of Cebu” and is a major vegetable supplier of the Province.

“We are here to improve the lives of the Cebuanos. It’s clear that this road is crucial for the farmers as they rely heavily on transporting their produce directly to the market for sale,” Gov. Garcia said.

The Capitol, according to its official news network Sugbo News, spent a total of P122.2 million for the said project alone, which is 5.3 km in length, 6.1 meters wide, and has cement thickness of 9 inches (23 cm).

This connects the mountain barangays of Mantalongon and Dugyan, the latter being the boundary between Dalaguete and Alegria.

Another inaugurated project is the Mantalongon-Villa Caridad road section, which had a budget of P4.7 million. The barangay road has a length of 424 meters and is 5 meters wide, and cement thickness of 8 inches.

Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante welcomed the Governor, as well as second district Representative Edsel Galeos and Board Members Raymond Calderon and Stanley Caminero. — (FREEMAN)
