PWRI project causing traffic along Vestil road

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Traffic Management Committee (TMC) is set to meet with the representatives of Pilipinas Water Resources Incorporated (PWRI) for an administrative conference this afternoon after several warnings on their pipe laying project along Vestil road have been ignored.

Cebu City traffic czar and Councilor Rey Gealon told The Freeman that PWRI’s project along the said area is causing serious traffic concerns.

The dislodged steel plates used to cover the diggings have made driving along that stretch difficult.

“Motorists are suffering from horrendous traffic in that section of Vestil where pipes are laid, due to the dislodged steel plates on the road PWRI haphazardly installed - not to mention the deep digging in the middle of the intersecting road of C. Padilla,” Gealon said.

PWRI had been repeatedly warned and cited for lack of road safety measures, including its non-compliance of the required early warning devices like orange barriers in the entire stretch of the project.

“They've been advised time and time again to install those early warning devices and bolt-in those steel plates so that stretch of road can still be safely passed and accessed,” Gealon added.

TMCC, according to Gealon, “does not want to revoke the work permit previously issued” but they want PWRI to expedite work with care and caution for motorists as they have already suffered enough because of their project.

At the moment, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has opened a zipper lane to accommodate the volume of vehicles heading towards Mambaling.

Additional personnel are also deployed in the area to direct the traffic flow. — (FREEMAN)
