For Misa de Gallo: More police to be stationed around churches

Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — More police will be deployed in churches and other places where more people will be gathered as the Misa de Gallo or dawn masses start on December 16, 2023.

This was confirmed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, who explained the deployment of over 6,000 police all over Central Visayas.

“Kami sa police magbutang mi og Police Assistance Desk sa tanang simbahan para naa moy kaduolan unya naa sad gyuy police nga nagbantay two hours before the mass and an hour after the mass will culminate para naa gyuy police presence,” said Pelare.

But apart from police deployment, Pelare said they will also rely on the help of the religious sector as well as the public to discuss measures that need to be taken so they do not become victims of crimes.

For one, Pelare said while there is no official prohibition yet of bringing backpacks when going to churches, the public should exercise caution and refrain from bringing one, especially bringing large amounts of money.

Further, the police welcomed the security initiatives of the local government units in Central Visayas, such as the implementation of the curfew to prevent the gathering of young people after 10 p.m.

“We will be happy if naay mga ingon ani nga security initiatives because this will help," said Pelare. —/ATO (FREEMAN NEWS)
