CEBU, Philippines — At least 600 personnel of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) underwent a surprise drug test Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023.

The drug test was conducted by the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP).

CCTO head Raquel Arce extended her apologies to the public for the inconvenience of traffic due to the absence of traffic enforcers on the streets from 5 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. She said their office received reports and complaints about traffic congestion within the duration of the drug test.

According to Arce, the drug test among their personnel is being done annually. She clarified that they did not conduct drug testing to investigate a report but rather just comply with their annual practice.

"Very important kay di ko ganahan nga aduna koy tawo sa akong opisina nga gagamit og illegal drugs kay I considered it as a dunot na kamatis na ibutang nimo in a basket full of ripe tomatoes, mutakod jud sya," said Arce.

Those who will be tested positive for illegal drugs would be recommended for dismissal, Arce added. — (FREEMAN)
