Nurses, nursing aides, midwives to be honored

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Nurses, attendants, and midwives in Cebu City will be treated to “the biggest and the grandest appreciation night” on December 17, 2023 at the Mandarin Plaza Hotel.

The Gala Awards is organized by Karrisa Quindao-Subedi, chief executive officer of the College of Nursing Education and Training Australia, to recognize the exemplary service of nurses, nursing aides, and midwives to the Cebuanos.

Karissa was born and raised in Cebu City and have worked as a nurse at the Cebu City Medical Center until better opportunities came her way in Australia in 2011 that eventually paved the way for the establishment of the College of NETA in 2020.

Karissa felt this is the “best time” to give back to the community and to her hometown.

“This is the best time to give back to the community and my hometown and let the nurses in Cebu know that your efforts have been recognized and appreciated,” Karissa said.

Close to 10 awards are to be given to the most deserving nurses, nursing aides, and midwives. These include the awards for excellent patient service, excellence in professional relations, innovation and health research, exceptional nurse leader of the year, nurse of the year, exceptional nursing aide of the year, continuing education committee award, College of NETA’s choice award, and Adecco Healthcare’s choice.

There will also be special awards to be given to the most engaging hospital in Cebu City, most number of Facebook members, and the best event media of the night.

A plaque and cash prizes await the winners of each category. The event is supported by the Cebu City government along with the Department of Health and the Philippine Nurses Association.

NETA’s business development officer, Mikay Quindao, told The Freeman that the selection process starts with the nominations from hospitals. This is the first time that NETA is giving out awards to local nurses in the city. — (FREEMAN)
