Rehab works for Carbon Unit 1 get private donor

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Rehabilitation works at Carbon Market Unit 1 will soon start after a well-meaning individual has donated 2,000 pieces of tiles for the repair of Cebu City’s largest public market.

Market administrator Robert Barquilla said that Walter Ong of Worldwide Steel Corporation and Worldwide Home Depot, responded to his call for help. Taking a cue from Mayor Michael Rama, Barquilla sought the help of the private sector in the rehabilitation of the market.

According to Barquilla, Carbon Market’s Unit 1 is supposed to be part of the Megawide/Cebu2World’s Carbon Market Redevelopment Project but he does not know why the timeline of the project.

He said the mayor could no longer wait for the Megawide to start the rehabilitation works because the safety of the public is at stake. Barquilla said the Unit 1, which is the wet section, needs an immediate repair because the old tiles are already posing danger to the vendors and the marketgoers.

“Apil na pero wala paman nalihok sa Megawide…Dili ganahan si Mayor na magpaabot pa kay basin daghan mga dakdak tungod kay slippery na kaayo,” Barquilla said.

Earlier, Barquilla also secured donations from the private sector for the rehabilitation of the Pardo Public Market. — (FREEMAN)
