CCENRO wins city's gardening contest at SRP

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) emerged as the grand prize winner of the City government's Peoples Farm Inter-Department/Offices Oplan Gardening contest at the South Road Properties.

CCENRO bested 66 other departments and attached offices minus the City’s Agriculture Department in this gardening contest and got P100,000 for the efforts they poured into it.

CCENRO’s Arlie Gesta said they will meet with their staff to discuss on what to do with the cash prize they recieved.

The Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) came second and got P75,000, while the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) landed third place and went home with P50,000.

The Cebu City Sports Commssion (CCSC) landed fourth with P30,000.

The rest of the participants, who also joined the City’s call to participate in the tiling the available land at the SRP and plant vegetables for food production, got P20,000 as consolation prize.

City Agriculturist Joey Baclayon said the People’s Farm at the SRP does not end with the awarding of the winners as they plan to expand it.

Aside from the City Hall offices, CAD is looking at including all barangays and even the private sector.

All the produce at the farm will be under the discretion of the participants whether to sell it or for their own consumption at home. (CEBU NEWS)
