Center told to correct easement violation
CEBU, Philippines — A daycare center for children of scavengers around Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City that was found to have encroached on the three-meter easement is given six months to make the necessary corrections.
Representatives from the Bethlehem Day Care Center, Incorporated, along with the University of San Carlos’ Engr. Ricardo Fornis and University Chaplain, Fr. Rogelio Bag-ao, met with the Task Force Gubat sa Baha officials to discuss the daycare structure’s violations as reported by the city’s Public Information Office.
Engr. Formis and Fr. Bag-ao got involved with this after some Theresian sisters running the said daycare center sought help from them.
Fr. Bag-ao asked Engr. Formis to check on the area concerning the encroachment and flooding issue of the daycare center.
“The built structure has not created any problem on flooding, kita gyud nato didto. The waterway has not been blocked and the highest flood level has not reached the level of the playground,” said Engr. Fornis during the meeting.
Although the day care center itself has not obstructed the waterways, there is a concrete playground built above the river itself.
The playground is also important to the said day care center as they cater to children of scavengers who are either in their nursery to kindergarten.
With this, Engr. Formis, Fr. Bagao and the daycare representatives asked TF-Gubat sa Baha to give them at least six months to correct the violation concerning the building of the playground without any resources from the city government.
The TF-Gubat sa Baha accordingly, approved “in principle” on such a request.
