Barangays asked: Involve tanods in traffic solution
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s Traffic Management Coordination Committee Chairperson and City Councilor Rey Gealon has proposed the active involvement of barangay tanods in the traffic management in the city.
After a two-year disruption of people's daily routine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most people are now back to normal routines, with workers now back to their respective offices and students going to school, Gealon pointed out.
As things go slowly back to normal, the traffic congestion in the city, as well as its neighboring cities, has also returned to pre-pandemic levels.
And to address this traffic congestion, Gealon stressed that it should be addressed first at the barangay level.
“As the basic political unit, the barangay serves as the primary planning and implementing unit of government policies, plans, programs, projects, and activities in the community, and as a forum wherein the collective views of the people may be expressed, crystallized and considered, and where disputes may be amicably settled,” stressed Gealon in a proposed resolution passed to the City Council.
Gealon has also urged barangay captains to assign barangay tanods in their respective jurisdictions to help in the basic traffic management.
Gealon emphasized that “there is a need for barangay captains to help in the basic traffic management within their jurisdiction, through their barangay tanods, in order to mitigate traffic congestion.” (CEBU NEWS)
