BOC-Cebu helps enhance Mactan airport services

CEBU, Philippines —  The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cebu is committed to enhance passenger services as it recently convened key personnel of Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

BOC Cebu district collector, Atty. Ricardo Uy Morales II, has expressed his deep appreciation for the commitment displayed by AIC and GMCAC officials in striving for continuous improvement in airport services.

Morales said that their partnership with AIC and GMCAC is a milestone in our collective journey to facilitate trade, bolster border protection, and enhance lawful revenue collection.

“It will also pave the way for MCIA to offer passengers a seamless and delightful travel experience. Together, we aim to position MCIA as a global leader in airport service excellence,” Morales added.

The MCIA underwent a significant transition in December 2022 when it was acquired by AIC.

As the new airport operator, AIC through the airport management, GMCAC, introduced the ONECOLS initiative which stands for “One-on-One Collaborative Sessions” designed to foster constructive dialogues, address concerns, provide essential updates, and explore innovative developments at MCIA.

“The central aim is to enhance passenger services and airport operations and introduce pioneering practices that will position MCIA as a global leader in the aviation industry,” BOC-Port of Cebu says in their Facebook post.

In the recent years, MCIA has made remarkable strides in the aviation industry, being the first airport in the Philippines to receive the Airport Customer Experience Level 1 Accreditation for Airport Service Quality from the Airports Council International (ACI) in recognition of MCIA’s commitment to delivering exceptional service to its passengers.

In 2021, MCIA also achieved the Airport Health Accreditation from ACI, acknowledging its relentless efforts in upholding the health and safety of passengers and airport personnel.

Additionally, the Passenger Service of Terminal 2 of the MCIA, under the leadership of Morales, who was then the deputy collector for operations, and BOC-Subport of Mactan Collector Gerardo A. Campo, made history by becoming the first airport of entry in the Philippines to be ISO 9001:2015 Certified.

“This certification reflects the Port of Cebu’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency,” it added.

The discussions between customs and AIC and GMCAC officials also encompassed customs compliance, with a strong focus on passengers filling out the Customs Baggage Declaration Form (CBDF) and fulfilling tax obligations to the government for dutiable items.

Moreover, the meeting also emphasized the vital role of non-intrusive inspection through x-ray machines at the arrival area, aimed at preventing the entry of contraband or illegal substances into the country. (CEBU NEWS)
