Palace declares special holiday in Mandaue City

CEBU, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared today, August 30, a special non-working day in Mandaue City to mark the city’s 54th Charter Day anniversary.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, on behalf of the president, signed Proclamation No. 313 declaring a special holiday in Mandaue City.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Mandaue be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” said Bersamin, citing Republic Act No. 5519 which was approved on June 21, 1969 creating the City of Mandaue. Proclamation No. 586 series of 1969 also designated August 30, 1969 as the formal organization of the government of the City of Mandaue.

The city government has lined up a series of activities in celebration of the Charter Day. These include BXC Circuit Race, Airsoft Competition, Investment Forum, International Cat Show, Employees Awarding, Loma Night Market, and other sports tournaments.

The city government also conducted various competitions among various sector in the city like Miss Palengke Night, Women’s Night, Coop Night, Tanod Day, Taxpayers Night, Senior Citizens Night, Kaabag Night, Liga ng mga Barangay Night, among others.

A parade will kick off today’s activities to be followed by a Mass and the ceremonial reveal of the city’s campaign branding as well as launching of its Move Mandaue jingle. The city officials, including barangay captains, will also sign a commitment today.

The city government allocated P17 million for this month-long anniversary celebration. — (FREEMAN)
