Ex-convict shot dead in Carcar

CEBU, Philippines —  A 34-year-old ex-convict was shot dead inside an internet cafe in sitio Proper, Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City at around 1 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was identified as Rey Piñas Canencia, unemployed and a resident of sitio Bas of the said barangay.

The suspects were riding-in-tandem of whom the driver was wearing a gray jacket with a hood and the gunman was wearing a red jacket with a hood and quickly escaped on a motorcycle towards the municipality of San Fernando.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of the Carcar City Police Station, there was an argument before the shooting happened.

It was also learned that the victim in 2018 was arrested for violating Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 and was released through plea bargaining.

"Mao na atong gitan-aw karon kining atong biktima, profile niya ug kining gikalalis prior sa insidente...gi-review nato ang CCTV, naa tay na interview nga mga witnesses ug nangita ta og witnesses nga maka corroborate sa nakakuha nato nga impormasyon, hopefully kaning atong effort ma identify nato, hopefully ma locate, yung tropa nasa ground karon," said Sucalit.

The suspects entered the internet cafe and shot the victim in the head causing his immediate death.

"Wala kabantay ang biktima kay naka headset man, wala siya kabantay nga giduol siya," said Sucalit.

The police are still investigating the incident.
