Jail guard nabbed for attempt to sneak in drugs, contraband
CEBU, Philippines — A jail guard was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle a pack of suspected shabu and other contraband inside the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).
The Cebu City Police Office-Guadalupe Police Station identified the suspect as Paul Riches Bacayo, 37, of Mohon, Talisay City.
The police said Bacayo reported for work around 6:37 a.m. yesterday, with a pack of 25-gram suspected shabu worth P170,000; P900 cash; and a plastic container with tobacco and a Galaxy 11 cellphone inside hidden with him.
He would have gotten away with the offense if not for the vigilance of the other guards in frisking all those who get inside the jail.
Guadalupe police and the CPDRC management are currently conducting a joint investigation to look into how a jail personnel ended up conniving with criminals instead of safeguarding the Barangay Kalunasan facility, which was his supposed duty. — /RHM (FREEMAN)
