Pasigarbo festival parade to spare Carcar highway

CEBU, Philippines — The street dancing competition of the contingents joining the 2023 Pasigarbo sa Sugbo will not traverse the national highway in Carcar City.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is aware of the current traffic problem in the area which is expected to worsen during the festival on August 27.

"I assure the public we will not be using the national road aron dili mosamot ang ka traffic. Nangita pa gani ko'g paagi nga ma ease up na kay hangtod karon grabe ang traffic didto," the governor said.

The ritual showdown of Pasigarbo will be held at the sports complex of Carcar City next month which is expected to draw thousands of guests and spectators.

Preparations for the event continue not just on the part of the Capitol, as the participating contingents are already doing their dance rehearsals and other things.

The Capitol has also started the distribution of the financial assistance to the local government units joining the Pasigarbo.

The first batch of contingents that received their subsidies are the LGUs in the second district – Alcoy,  Argao, Boljoon, Dalaguete, Oslob, Samboan and Santander – whose mayors were the ones who received the cheque from the governor during the caravan of the provincial government services on July 26.

The Capitol shelled out a P14 million subsidy for the seven contingents.

In this year's Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, mainland LGUs will receive P2 million each as subsidy from the Province while the island LGUs like Bantayan, Santa Fe and Madridejos in Bantayan Island and the towns of  Poro, Pilar, Tudela and San Francisco in Camotes Island will have P2.5 million each. — (FREEMAN)
