Cebu City to host LMP island confab
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City will host another gathering of local government units soon, this time for the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP).
The Luzon Island Cluster Conference is set on August 24 to 26, 2023 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, according to the memorandum circular issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Visayas Cluster, on the other hand, will have its conference on July 27-29 2023 at Royce Premium Hotel in Clark, Pampanga. The Mindanao cluster is scheduled set on the last week of September but the venue is yet to be finalized.
Holding of annual major island conference is mandated under Article V Section 9 of the LMP Constitution and By-Laws, according to DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr.
This year’s theme is “Island Cluster Development: Embracing Reforms to Accelerate Progress”.
“All DILG Regional Directors and Field Officers are hereby directed to cause the immediate and widest dissemination of this Memorandum Circular within their respective jurisdiction,” says Abalos.
Cebu City also hosted last year the first convergence of the League of Cities of the Philippines headed by Mayor Michael Rama.
Rama is also expected to be interacting with the municipal mayors in the upcoming event as he earlier expressed his desire to form all mayors in one group and no distinction between cities and municipalities just like in the councilors’ league and vice-mayor’s league where he was a past national president.
