Private firms to help Pepang cemetery into heritage park

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Amidst some issues that hinder the conversion of Doña Pepang cemetery into a heritage park, the Cebu City government got the needed support from the private sector.

Lite Shipping Corporation-Lite Ferries’ President and CEO Lucio Lim Jr. is the first one to personally commit support for the said project, according to the project overseer Ramil Ayuman, one of Mayor Michael Rama’s special assistants.

Lite Ferries’ building is just near the Doña Pepang cemetery that Lim himself got ecstatic about its conversion.

Lim personally met Rama earlier this week to discuss a private-public partnership concerning the conversion of the said cemetery into a heritage park.

“Mapasalamaton si Lucio Lim sa dakong tinguha ni Mayor Rama aron mahimo heritage park ang maong dapit,” Ayuman said.

Ayuman said Lim had committed to giving financial support to it but it was not disclosed as to how much it was going to give.

“Wa hinoon mosulti si Lucio Lim pila ka milyon ka pesos iyang suporta apan igo kini makasugod sa maong proyekto,” added Ayuman.

Aside from Lite Ferries, the likes of Robinson Galleria and SM City as well as other businesses near Doña Pepang have also expressed interest to help the city’s plan into a reality. — (FREEMAN)
