Barangay execs, lot owners support road widening

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CABU, Philippines —  The Cebu City government got the needed support from the Guadalupe barangay officials and lot owners on the planned road widening along Quijada Street, in connection with the Cebu South Circumferential Road project.

The city government did not encounter any objection concerning this project during a public hearing held at the Guadalupe Sports Gym.

“All those who attended the public consultation expressed support in the implementation and realization of these projects including the proposed road widening. Si Kap Michael (Gacasan) is happy with this development to decongest traffic in his barangay especially nga naa puy mga bag-ong condominium projects sa barangay.  If mapuno na tanan, grabe gyung traffic so we need those diversion roads,” Guardo told The FREEMAN in an interview.

Guardo said the road widening in Quijada Street will eventually connect the DPWH diversion road. The road connects Barangay Guadalupe to Capitol all the way to Lahug.

“The diversion road will connect Guadalupe to Lahug. Or balihon nato adto sa Lahug, sa Ecotech sa likod to Capitol, buhat silag tulay padong Guadalupe, anha diha sa kilid sa barangay hall. Ang atbang anang barangay hall, mao na ng Quijada. Kami mosalo anang dapit para ma-realize ng South circumferential road,” Guardo added.

It is important to widen the Quijada area to ease the traffic, he said.

“Kung kutob lang sa Guadalupe (Barangay Hall) and road opening sa diversion road, ma-choke man ang Guadalupe maong ilahos sa South and Phase 1 mao ng Quijada,” Guardo added.

The plan is to make Quijada Street into four lanes, from the existing two lanes, with two lanes for both north and south. This would also have a sidewalk.

With no opposition, surveyors are expected next week to determine how many lot owners will be affected.

The city government aims to commence the construction next month already.

The road widening project is said to be privately funded as part of Mayor Mike Rama’s investment begging in Manila, while the Cebu City government will take care of the road acquisition.
