‘Sleeping cops’ transferred to Siquijor, NegOr
CEBU, Philippines — The two policemen of the Abellana Police Station 2 and two other members of the Mobile Patrol Unit who were seen sleeping in the patrol car while on duty were transferred to the provinces of Siquijor and Negros Oriental.
Photos and videos of the policemen sleeping inside the patrol car went viral on social media.
Following the incident, Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, has called an emergency meeting and ordered his personnel assigned to the mobile patrol car in every police station not to sleep during their duty.
He warned that he is determined to implement the one-strike policy and expel them.
The chief of the Mobile Patrol Unit, Lt. Col. Euniel Avergonzado, was replaced by Lt. Col. Hendrix Bancoleta after the incident.
Dalogdog said that members of the CCPO who are involved in irregularities while doing their work will not be forgiven and will be punished with administrative or criminal cases.
Dalogdog clarified that policemen are not allowed to sleep while on duty, saying he has issued an order to the station commanders as well as the chief of the MPU to remove the tint placed on the patrol cars so that those on duty will not be tempted to sleep.
"Niadtong Sabado nagpahigayon na og patanggal sa mga tinted nga mga sakyanan ug patrol cars ang kadtong sa MPU kay naa sila'y patrol cars nga tinted which is bawal and siya, mas maayo gyud nang dili tinted kay makita sa sulod," said Dalogdog. — (FREEMAN)
