Another nursing student to receive recognition

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Another nursing student in Cebu City together with several other good Samaritans got recognized for their heroic act, this time, for helping a pregnant street dweller give birth safely along the bridge between barangays Tisa and Labangon recently.

City Councilor Rey Gealon had identified the said nursing student as Lance Ernest Atillo, a second-year nursing student at Cebu Doctor’s University.

Gealon, in a proposed resolution to commend Atillo’s efforts, said the latter brought the materials used to cut the premature baby’s umbilical cord and assisted Ann Mangingit, a registered nurse.

Mangitngit is also a product of the University of Cebu-Banilad where the two other modern-day heroes, Angyl Fayth Ababat and Kristianne Joice Ona, are from.

“Such heroic acts are worthy of emulation and praise as it restores Cebuanos’ faith in humanity,” Gealon said.

Aside from Atillo and Mangitngit, Gealon is also pushing for the same recognition to Rosario Atillo, Baham Arabis, Elena Cabrilles, and Jennifer Gacho, all government workers from Barangay Tisa, also for the valuable assistance they gave to “Jonah,” the mother of the premature baby who gave birth along the bridge night of February 4.

“It is proper and fitting that the Cebu City Government extend their appreciation by commending them for their  great act and at the same time thank them for extending help to Jonah as well as for giving the City of Cebu a chance to celebrate and be proud,” Gealon stressed. — GMR (FREEMAN)
