‘Asphalt storm’ in Mandaue’s 13 brgys underway
CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon announced Sunday that with the flood control projects worth P1.3 billion are ongoing for the city, another P378.2 million worth of “asphalt storm” has also started in the city’s 13 barangays.
Ouano-Dizon said that the so called “asphalt storm” or asphalt overlay projects will cover of 8.9 kilometers of different road portions of 13 barangays comprising Centro, Cambaro, Opao, Umapad, Maguikay, Bakilid, Jagobiao, Tabok, Labogon, Basak, Canduman, Subangdaku and Tipolo.
The congresswoman said that of the P367 million, a total of P100 million is allocated to roads connecting barangays Centro, Cambaro, Opao and Plaridel St. in Umapad; P40 million for Barangay Maguikay; P50 million for Barangay Opao; P19,294,000 for Barangay Bakilid; P19,700,000 for Barangay Jagobiao; P94,956,000 is apportioned to the roads linking barangays Tabok, Labogon, Basak and Jagobiao.
A total of P10 million is allocated for Barangay Canduman; P16,300,000 for Barangay Subangdaku; and P28,000,000 million for the roads linking barangays Subangdaku, Tipolo and Umapad.
She said that motorists in Mandaue as well as those passing those in these barangays will experience smoother, faster, and safer travel once the implementation of “asphalt storm” is completed.
She said this “asphalt storm” will be carried out for the road preventive maintenance project to prevent early deterioration of concrete pavements which also aims to reduce risks of road accidents.
Ouano-Dizon added that asphalt prevents surface water from entering and weakening the underlying pavement of the roads, therefore providing long-term ease of access for residents and visitors to the city.
“Nahibawo man gyud ta nga dili na gyud kaayo maayo ang kondisyon sa maong mga karsada, so this improvement is beneficial to the local residents, most especially the public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers nga maoy pirme moagi niining mga karsada,” Ouano Dizon said, in a statement.
The funding for the P1.3 billion flood control projects which aims to reduce or prevent the detrimental effects of river overflows and flood waters that will be put in place in many flood prone barangays in the city as well as the P376 million worth of asphalt overlays is sourced from the
General Appropriations Act of 2023 through the efforts of the congresswoman.
Other infrastructure projects implemented by Ouano-Dizon last year were the construction of roads with drainage in barangays Umapad and Mantuyong, as well as the construction of flood control infrastructure along Butuanon River in Barangay Cabancalan. (FREEMAN)
