Archdiocese defends priest in TikTok dance craze
CEBU, Philippines — There was "nothing improper" with a priest in Danao City dancing to the TikTok dance craze “Ting Ting Tang Tang” at the altar of his parish on one of the days of the Misa de Gallo.
This was the reaction of Msgr. Joseph Tan, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Cebu, after the video of the priest and his altar boys made rounds on social media.
Tan, however, said that the act was "not encouraged" and "has no penalties" for the priest who danced to the tune of a worldly song at the pulpit.
The viral video was uploaded by a certain Yeng Abinales last December 18 on Facebook and credited its source as a parishioner from the St. Thomas de Villanueva Parish in Danao City.
In an interview with PEP.ph, the uploader said the dance was the priest and the sacristan's way of caroling to raise funds to help with the church's projects and its indigent employees.
