Old man’s corpse still unclaimed
CEBU, Philippines — The body of a man who died last week in a road accident in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City remains unclaimed.
The victim was identified as Aselo Rosal Galon, 60, a resident of Sitio Perpaas, Englis, V. Rama Avenue, Cebu City.
According to the personnel of the Cebu City Police Station 9 or the Guadalupe Police Station, Galon died a day after he was hit by a motorcycle.
In an investigation led by Police Staff Sergeant Rey Antonio L. Montalban, the victim was allegedly drunk walking along V. Rama Avenue last December 21.
Galon reportedly then crossed the street suddenly that the motorcycle driver traversing the road was unable to step on his brakes on time and hit him.
Because of the impact, the driver was thrown off his motorcycle, while Galon fell off the street. The victim, however, sustained a severe head injury.
The driver was later identified as Marlon Bantillan, 36, a resident of Lorenzo Lopez Drive, also in Englis V. Rama Avenue. Bantillan works as a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) driver.
Galon was then rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, where the suspect's wife attended to all his medical needs. But he was later declared dead around 5 a.m. on December 22.
As of press time, authorities are still waiting for Galon's relatives and loved ones to show up at Police Station 9, as the victim’s body remains unclaimed.
Bantillan would possibly face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, if the victim's family will pursue charges against him. — GAN (FREEMAN)
