20 Cebu grads land in nursing board top 10: 100% for 3 schools

CEBU, Philippines —  In what could be one for history books, three schools in Cebu City – Cebu Doctors’ University, Velez College, and Cebu Normal University – registered a perfect passing percentage in the November 2022 Nurse Licensure Examination.

Also, 20 examinees from Cebu landed in the top 10 of the same examination.

According to the Professional Regulation Commission, all 174 takers from CDU passed the licensure exam. So did all 163 and all 65 takers from Velez and CNU, respectively.

Of the 20 topnotchers from Cebu schools, eight were from CNU, six from CDU, two each from the University of Cebu and Cebu Technological Institute -Cebu City Medical Center, and one each from Cebu Institute of Technology-University and Southwestern University.

They are: Adrian Miguel Amil and Antonette Feliz Acaso Calimot of CNU (89.60%, 3rd); Dorcas Milcah Obiso Albores and Kathleen Ry Flores Mina of CNU, Lizalyn Joy Angeles Julio of CIT-U, and Shania Antipuesto Omega of UC-Banilad (89.40%, 4th); Rochine Claire Vaño Cagasan and Maraiah Cabahug Santos of CDU (89.20%, 5th); Cayci Ronnette Cabillon Requiroso of CNU (88.80%, 7th); Merlyn Tumatub Ansali of SWU, Phoebe Joy Menguito Dingcong of CTI-CCMC; Ryale Ellaine Barcenas Esmero of CNU; John Lloyd Dayanan Genelsa and Karylle Nicole Veloso Teo of CDU, and Jann Louie Chua Hu Lamban of UC-Banilad (88.60%, 8th).

Completing the list: Carmela Ysatam Bihag of CTI-CCMC, Catherine Joy Solano Chua and Benz Jim Timbal Gragasin of CDU, and Kathleen Bucsit Labadan and Eloisa Mae Abarquez Rabanes of CNU (88.20%, 10th).

The 20 were among the 183 topnotchers who finished the exam in the top 10 spots.

Amil, in a Facebook post, said his recent feat reminds him of all the struggles he has gone through.

However, he also urged his fellow NLE passers to “let our strengths and accomplishments be a reminder of how far we've come, and let our weaknesses and fears propel us to strive to become the best that we can be.”

Amil said that the board exam is a matter of luck in the sense that an examinee is always unsure whether what he has studied would come out.

“The five-year long preparation to get to this point is arduous, for sure, but the board exam is about dealing with the cards we have been dealt with. I am just immensely blessed and grateful that the card given to me was the one that took me this far,” he said.

“Knowing that any other board exam, with a different set of questions, may not have provided me with the same outcome. Whether we passed, or topped, as new Registered Nurses, we will venture forward equipped with knowledge and competency to serve the people with care and compassion, and that is an immense privilege like no other,” he added.

According to the PRC, 18,529 out of 24,903 passed the examination given by the Board of Nursing last month in Manila, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

Abigail Garganta Ramirez, a graduate from Saint Paul University-Dumaguete, ranked first place with a rating of 90 percent. — JMD (FREEMAN)
