Youth groups support Singapore-like vision

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Various youth organizations in Cebu City have joined forces for the “Youth Bayanihan” campaign in support of the city government’s various programs.

Cebu City Youth Development Commission Head Paolo Saberon said the Youth Bayanihan shows the youth sector’s care to its city and fellowmen.

Close to 50 youth organizations in various areas of the city are currently registered with the CCYDC.

Among those registered in the CCYDC are campus-based organizations, out-of-school-youth groups, groups of persons with disability (PWD), LGBT youth organizations, civic professionals, faith-based organizations, among others.

So far, these youth groups showed force in helping the city with its tree-planting activities and clean-up drives.

Some of the youth organizations are also active in doing relief operations for those affected by the calamity plus outreach programs to those who are in need.

Others are also helping in job fairs conducted in the barangays and other programs in the city for youth advancement and development.

Earlier, the CCYDC also gathered all 80 barangays in Cebu City to create a local youth development plan for the next three years.

The local youth development plan will serve as a standard for creating programs for the youth.

Under the SK Reform Law, local government units had also been ordered to set up a local youth development council.

Saberon disclosed that they are lucky enough that Mayor Mike Rama is very supportive of them, so, in return, the youth are also doing some initiatives to help the mayor achieve his Singapore-like Cebu City vision. — Sanden J. Anadia, GAN (FREEMAN)
