Cruz vows changes at Port of Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — Clients can now expect faster and convenient processing as newly-installed Bureau of Customs-Cebu District Collector, Atty. Elvira Cruz, has ordered a revamp in the releasing of goods declarations.

Cruz noticed on her first day of office last week that stakeholders outside the building’s entrance were waiting for their released documents.

She immediately ordered the Enforcement and Security Service to allow the processors inside and provide chairs in the lobby for the convenience of the public.

Cruz likewise directed all division heads to fast-track transactions and accommodate direct follow-ups from stakeholders to avoid delays and inconvenience.

“We are all human. We do not want to wait and if we have to wait, we want to wait comfortably. We are public servants, and we are sworn to serve our stakeholders properly without any hassle. That’s the best customs service we can give,” said Cruz in a Facebook post.

In line with the trade facilitation mandate of the Bureau, Cruz vows to bring changes in the Port of Cebu that promote the welfare of the transacting stakeholders.

Cruz, a lawyer, took her oath of office before Commissioner Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz on November 7 as the new district collector of Cebu. She was the district collector of the Port of Cagayan de Oro from June 2021 prior to her new assignment.

“Hitting the Port’s remaining targets for the year is our topmost priority. Along with our strengthened efforts to collect much-needed revenue, I commit to make transactions with the Port faster and customer-focused. Excellent customs service will be the brand of my leadership,” said Cruz

Cruz replaced Atty. Charlito Martin R. Mendoza, who also replaced him in 2019 as head of the BOC-Cebu. — GMR (FREEMAN)
