KBP-Cebu elects new set of officers
CEBU, Philippines — The new leadership of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas in Cebu has vowed to “continue to be relevant in our society” especially in the “new normal.”
KBP officials admitted the many challenges that the broadcast industry is facing, especially with the emergence of new technology and the disinformation surrounding the digital platform.
DyLL Energy FM’s station manager Allan “Abai” Montesclaros, who was recently elected to lead the KBP-Cebu Chapter, said that radio stations in Cebu will look after each other as they leave behind the competition while embracing the “new normal” in the broadcast industry.
“The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) members believe that we are of different herd from the circus of on-line disinformation that paralleled the advancement of human lives in this digital era. As members we will define even deeper the standards and take the accountabilities in this God given profession, as broadcaters, Beyond listenership, views, followers and money but with passion,” Montesclaros said.
Montesclaros replaced Fr. Roberto Ebisa as the KBP-Cebu head after the latter’s term had ended. Ebisa has been the KBP local president since 2016.
Ebisa said the broadcast industry is facing an “enormous challenge” with the advancement of communications technology.
“The media habits of today’s listeners are ever-changing. Radio is constantly re-inventing itself in many ways to remain relevant to the society. And we need dedicated and capable the maze of this transformation happening all over the world” Ebisa said.
The former KBP-Cebu chairman though believes in the “unwavering passion” of the local leaders to bring the broadcast industry to greater heights.
Ruperto Nicdao Jr., overall chairman of the KBP in the country, shared the same sentiments with the local officials of the organization about the challenges facing the broadcast industry these days.
Nicdao said “challenges, however, make serving in a leadership position more fulfilling and rewarding and I am sure the experience will enable you to learn more about yourselves and your members.”
