Cebu City releases P16 million aid for fire victims

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has released a total of  P16.11 million in its latest distribution of financial aid to fire victims in different barangays here.

The city’s Public Information Office reported that the allocated funds aim to assist a total of 819 families affected by a fire in Punta Princesa, 156 families in Ermita, and 98 families in Quiot.

Structure owners received P20,000 each while renters were given P10,000 each.

Fire victims, especially structure owners, were thankful that the much-awaited financial assistance from the city government had finally been released. Many of them said they will be using the money they received from the city government to buy more materials needed to rebuild their homes.

Not all who claimed over the weekend, however, were able to get their due as they lost their “intake form”  or were unregistered in the barangay where they claimed to be a part of accordingly.

The form accordingly serves as proof that they truly are a beneficiary and have been validated.

Those who lost their intake forms may, nonetheless, get a new one at the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) office today, September 12.

For the unregistered ones in the barangay, they are advised to bring with them their voter’s registration along with a barangay certification and a voter’s certification, even if not registered under any of the three barangays as proof.

Those who simply missed the schedule of release of the financial assistance may go to the City Treasurer’s Office to claim it.

The CTO is reminding beneficiaries to bring a valid ID together with the intake form. No authorization letters will be honored. — JMD (FREEMAN)
