CEBU, Philippines — After several years out of spotlight, the dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) are back with their new choreographed dance moves.

At least 186 persons deprive of liberty (PDLs) presented several dances with different dance music like Mission Impossible Theme; Jump (by The Pointer Sisters); Do You Miss Me (Jocelyn Enriquez); They Don’t Care About Us (Michael Jackson) and the finale song of Mabuhi during the re-launching of CPDRC dancing inmates on Friday at the CPDRC quadrangle.

The presentation was choreographed by the Cebuano dancesport choreographer Edward Hayco.

It was witnessed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia with Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, Provincial Board members, mayors and other officials and guests.

The downpour did not stop the inmates from performing in front of their guests.

“Dinhi mismo sa CPDRC gipakita nato sa tibuok probinsya, tibuok nasud ug kay live man kini duna usab nanan-aw nato karon sa uban pang mga nasud. Gipakita nato ang ligdong ug lig-ong diwa pagka-Sugboanon,” Garcia said

“Karong buntaga (yesterday) inyong gipasidunggan ang atong pagka-Sugboanon,” the governor said.

Garcia explained that the inmates deserve opportunity like having a good source of living for their families, which is why the Capitol with other government and private agencies have implemented programs for the PDLs at CPDRC.

This includes scholarship grant from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to teach and train them of skills like baking and massage so that this would help them look for jobs once they will be granted their freedom.

The first batch of PDLs has already been issued with passbook of their savings account with the Cooperative Bank of Cebu. —GMR (FREEMAN)
