Rama eyes food street on B. Rodriguez sidewalk
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants the sidewalk on B. Rodriguez Street to be free of obstructions during the day time so people could pass through it.
But he wants it to be a food street during the night time as part of the city’s transformation into a Singapore-like city.
This was Rama’s directive to Barangay Sambag II captain Ryan Aznar during the mayor’s walkthrough in B. Rodriguez Street, Osmeña Boulevard, a portion of N. Bacalso Avenue until the area near Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) last Sunday.
“Ryan I want this to be a food street at night. (A) Singapore-like city starts at home,” he told Aznar.
Aznar, for his part, accepted the challenge of the mayor.
Rama's aim is to bring back the usual sidewalk for the pedestrian, which will be the area also for the planned food street.
He also instructed Aznar to improve the skywalks, including the wall of the Department of Health that will be decorated with murals, which will be done through a Public-Private Partnership.
A tanod will also be designated in the area, day and night, so that the “libod-suroy” will not stay there.
“Bisan dili na akong teritoryo kanang skywalk sa Robinsons ug CNU tabang gihapon ta. Ipatawag pud nato ang mga stakeholders ug kapitan para sa plano,” said Aznar.
Rama advised to make the barangay organized, implement multi-tasking, and if they are in need of assistance, the city government is always there to extend help. — JMD (FREEMAN)
