CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has intensified its operations against smoke belchers as well as in the enforcement of traffic rules in the city.

CCTO has reported that for the month of February alone, they were caught 706 vehicles for smoke-belching during its roadside operation.

Smoke belchers are fined P1,000  for their first offense, P3,000 on the second time, and P5,000 on their third offense.

The CTTO is reminding all motorists to check their vehicles and avoid contributing to the harmful effects of smoke-belching, which contributs to global warming.

Aside from the smoke belchers, the CTTO also reported a total of 6,273  traffic rules and regulations last month.

Most of the violations include driving without license and registration and negligence to traffic rules.

So far, there have been 244 motorcycles, three tricycles, five private vehicles, one trailer, two PUJs, and a bus recently.

Along with this, CTTO’s legal division also reported that around 101 cases have already been filed in court due to traffic violations.

Most of the cases involved did not settle their Traffic Citation Tickets (TCT) immediately.

"Kung kamo madakpan ,i- sigurado nga ma settle ang inyong violation sa tulo ka adlaw o 72 hours. Dalha ang citation ticket sa among opisina. Pwede ra lain ang mo bayad o settle. Importante naa ang citation ticket," a reminder from CCTO read. — Sanden J. Anadia, KQD (FREEMAN)
