Renewal of trike franchise extended for 1 month

Gabriel C. Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The City of Talisay has extended the deadline for the renewal of franchise for tricycle drivers and operators.

Mary Jane Enrile, chief of the city’s Business and Lincensing Office, said the development came after drivers and operators lobbied for an extension owing to the pandemic and the recent typhoon Odette.

The renewal was supposed to conclude on February 28, Monday, but is extended a month or until March 31 this year.

“It was extended to help them recover their economic loss caused by the lockdowns and recent typhoon,” she said.

The cost of franchise renewal is at P500.

The city has at least 1,600 accredited tricycle drivers. So far, only 1,300 have renewed their franchises with the city. — KQD (FREEMAN)
