Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  After over a month since typhoon Odette left a swath of damage in Cebu, two of the famous tourist destinations in the southern town of Oslob have reopened to the public.

The whale shark watching in Barangay Tan-awan and Sumilon sandbar are now accepting visitors.

“Nag-open na mi since last week ang whale shark and Sumilon sandbar,” the Oslob Tourism Office told The Freeman.

The sandbar, however, will be closed for rehabilitation and cleanup every Wednesday. The LGU is also limiting the number of tourists in a day due to minimum health protocol requirements.

According to the tourism office, only 500 tourists are allowed to enjoy the sandbar per day while 1, 000 for the whale shark watching.

The two tourism destinations are among the tourism spots in the province affected by typhoon Odette on December 16, 2021. Several pump boats were damaged by the typhoon.

The Cebu Provincial Tourism Office has initially pegged at P112 million the damage to tourism infrastructures due to typhoon Odette. — FPL (FREEMAN)
