CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu provincial government has urged the local government units in the province to always monitor their areas of jurisdiction due to inclement weather.

This after a house in Barangay Luyang, Carmen was hit by a storm surge around 12 midnight Wednesday, December 8.

Grace Villena, disaster office clerk of Carmen Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), said the family was safe though and was able to evacuate.

The Provincial DRRMO officials also said they are on the look out of the areas prone to landslides, flashfloods and even those on coastal areas.

“Tungod sa weather karon naay gitawag nato nga scattered thunderstorms nga mag-uwan didto sa south or sa north…keep monitoring lang sa mga sitwasyon unya naa sa ilang discretion ang pagtan-aw ug paghatag og information sad sa mga local chief executives alang sa mga lakang nga himuon,” said Wilson Ramos, the interim officer of PDRRMO.

In Daanbantayan, Mayor Sun Shimura has suspended the classes in elementary and secondary due to bad weather condition.

In Bogo City, the LGU has reminded its residents to be alert after the city was placed under orange warning level category yesterday.

“Anaa sa 75,000-150,000 baril nga gidaghanon nga tubig uwan ang ibundak matag usa kilometro kwadrado sa matag takna,” read the city’s Facebook page.

The city identified some low-lying and flood prone areas which include the barangays of La Purisima Concepcion, Bungtod, Taytayan, Gairan, Don Pedro and Polambato.

Ramos also urged the public to not to wait for the water level to rise before evacuating especially on areas that are prone to flashfloods.

“As much as possible nga kon makita nila nga delikado na ilang lugar especially katong naa sa landslide prone area ug coastal bakwit na gyud sila,” Ramos furthered. — GMR (FREEMAN)
