Repollo lamented the City Hall’s inaction to his requests for road rehabilitation which were made in 2019 and 2020 yet.

CEBU, Philippines —  Inayawan barangay captain Kirk Bryan Repollo has appealed to the Cebu City government to treat the barangays fairly in terms of providing basic services.

Repollo lamented the City Hall’s inaction to his requests for road rehabilitation which were made in 2019 and 2020 yet.

“I am writing this letter to follow-up the road rehabilitation here in Inayawan, Cebu City particularly in the following areas: 1. White Road, 2.Upper Inayawan Road, 3. Dona Rosa Rosa, 4.Sitio Palwa Maria, 5. F.Jaca St.(Greenfield entrance),” read part of Repollo’s letter.

Repollo also disclosed that in its previous request, they included sito Sea Lion, but ended up finishing the concreting of the said area on their own initiative.

The barangay was forced to undertake the rehabilitation on their own out of their meager resources because of the city government’s inaction. Repollo said the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) personnel only inspected the roads that needed rehabilitation and never came back.

The Cebu City government has been posting on its social media account some of the road repairs/projects via “asphalt storm” which Repollo said, they could only hope and pray that would also reach their area soon.

“We are just asking that we too, be fairly given the proper service from this present administration,” said Repollo.

Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the committee on infrastructure in the City Council, denied favoritism in the distribution of projects. He said there are no favored barangays.

Guardo explained that some road rehabilitation projects, including in Inayawan, were temporarily suspended after the city’s contract with Docast Construction was terminated.

The contractor allegedly failed to deliver the asphalt required of them. Based on its purchase order to Docast last March 18, the city government allocated P59,093,250.06 for bitumen, SS1 and diesel.

Guardo said it is unfair for Repollo to be accusing the city government of favoritism. In fact, the city government allocated P100 million for the rehabilitation of Bulacao River, which is also under Repollo’s barangay. — FPL (FREEMAN)
