CCTO intensifies campaign vs jaywalking, illegal parking

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has advised the public to follow traffic signs as it intensifies their campaign against jaywalking and illegal parking.

In a statement posted on its social media account, CCTO said it is important to observe traffic signs at all times to help ease traffic congestion and avoid accidents.

The city’s traffic bureau has reported a total of 33,091 individuals apprehended for jaywalking from January up to June this year.

“Gihangyo namo labi na sa mga nadakpan nga irespeto pud ang atong mga enforcers kay para sad ni maluwas mo sa aksidente,” CCTO statement reads.

According to the agency, violators on the streets are contributing to road congestion.

The CCTO said it has also intensified its enforcement of traffic laws, especially on illegal overnight parking. More vehicles are observed to have been illegally parked along the streets while the city is under the less restrictive modified general community quarantine.

CCTO has been conducting surprise operations due to several complaints from the public regarding illegally parked vehicles. City Ordinance (CO) 1657 or the Clamping Ordinance prohibits illegal parking on the roads. Violators will be issued citation tickets and will be fined P1,500. — FPL (FREEMAN)
