Return of Zumba at sports center eyed

CEBU, Philippines — The management of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) is considering the return of Zumba at the facility.

CCSC manager Jundel Bontuyan said this will help the sports center generates more income.

“Expected namo, basin pwede nami mag-Zumba. Nangita nami’g pwesto, basin mga June i-add to namo nga activity para mas motaas pa ang amoang income. Makatabang-tabang siya,” said Bontuyan.

Currently, the activities allowed are only limited to jogging and walking at the sports center which was officially reopened to the public on May 3, 2021.

Bontuyan said the activity would really help the CCSC earn additional income as those who would join the Zumba will also pay P10 aside from the entrance fee.

He earlier said there is a need to reopen the sports center so that they could generate income for the maintenance of its facilities.

He added the reopening is also for the gradual return of their employees who were not able to work at the sports center for more than a year due to the pandemic.

The CCSC has 27 personnel now.

Bontuyan said that on the first week of the reopening, their average income was at P10,000 to P11,000; on the second week, P15,000; and on the third week, P10,000 to P11,000.

“Katong before sa COVID, mag-average gyud mi’g 50 to 60 thousand a day,” said Bontuyan.

Bontuyan said now, an average of 400 to 500 persons would go to the CCSC in a day.

However, he understands that some people do not anymore go to the sports center to exercise because they are also taking precaution.

“Ang uban tawo, nag-amping pa gyud seguro nga dili motipon og daghan. So far, safe man. Wa ma’y reklamo ang mga personnel nga nakakuha sila diri og problema regarding sa pag-follow sa social distancing,” he said.

“So far karon, ang uban nakasabot naman. Anyway di man ni para ra namo, di man ni para sa mga staff, para man ni natong tanan for safety,” he added.

Only 200 individuals are allowed at a time inside the oval, including the marshal.

There are four marshals assigned at the oval who will take turns every after one hour.

These marshals are tasked to ensure that the health protocols are followed by the joggers and walkers at the CCSC.

The sports center is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As a safety measure, the oval is disinfected daily after its closing.

There is no increase in the entrance fee. It is still at P15 in the morning and at P20 in the afternoon. — GMR (FREEMAN)
