Two missing men found dead in Camotes Islands
CEBU, Philippines — Two young men who went missing Tuesday while swimming with friends at the Canlusong Wharf in Barangay San Isidro, San Francisco town in Camotes Islands were found dead, floating off the shorelines of the said barangay yesterday.
Police identified the drowning victims as Clark Paradero, 21, and John Mark Gerodias, 18, both residents of Purok Baring in the same barangay.
Police Corporal Jondy Pogoña, of San Fransisco Police Station, said Paradero and Gerodias joined four of their friends—Calbejay Estrera Maralang, 16; Joshua Wenceslao Villas, 13; Ruel Paradero, 20; and Khimuel Paradero Wenceslao, 12,-- for a swim at the wharf past 1 p.m. Tuesday despite the squall.
"Ang uban na save ra nila ilang mga kaugalingon," said Pogoña.
The combined elements of Philippine Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Station, Maritime Police, and volunteer fisherfolks recovered the bodies of the victims at 9:24 a.m. yesterday after several hours of search and rescue operation.
The wharf where the victims drowned is the locals’ favorite area for swimming.
"Usually gyud, kung di gyud sya bawod, daghan man gyuy mangaligo dira sa pantalan, karon lang nga bawod kaayo, nahibung gani mi ngano nangaligo sila nga bawod man kaayo," Pogoña told The Freeman. — FPL (FREEMAN)
