CEBU, Philippines — Naga City Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong has issued an executive order imposing a truck ban in the city starting next month.

The truck ban covers all the six-wheeler trucks and above traversing the N. Bacalso Avenue and Naga-Uling Road, as well as all interior roads of the city from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Mondays to Saturdays, except Sundays and non-working holidays.

Chiong issued EO No. 122 series of 2021 on January 25, 2021.

Trailer trucks carrying empty cargo containers are also prohibited in traversing in the city’s roads from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Parking on roadsides or sidewalks along the national highway is also prohibited at all times.

The purpose of the truck ban is to help decongest the traffic situation in the city.

The announcement was posted on the official Facebook page of the City Government of Naga, Cebu.

The City of Naga Traffic Management Authority and the police personnel in the city are tasked to impose the said order which will take effect on February 1, 2021.

Naga City has been cooperating with the Cebu Provincial Government together with Talisay City and Minglanilla in decongesting the traffic problem in the southern highway of Cebu Province.

This month the local government of Minglanilla also implemented a truck ban from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for forward trucks and six-wheeled vehicles.

The town also implemented the “no-left turn, no-crossing” policy with the same purpose of decongesting the traffic in its area of jurisdiction.

The new traffic scheme is seen to be effective in Minglanilla after continuous flow of traffic during rush hours was observed at the national highway. — GMR (FREEMAN)
