Task group to probe lawyer slay
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be creating a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) that will focus on the killing of lawyer Joey Luis Wee.
In a press conference yesterday, CCPO Director Josefino Ligan said the SITG will be created since Wee was a lawyer, a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
“Upon reviewing the parameters of SITG, the victim falls on the creation of SITG because he’s a member of IBP,” he said.
The SITG will be composed of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Regional Crime Laboratory, City Intelligence Unit (CIU), and investigation-on-case (OIC) of Mabolo Police Station.
Ligan, who will be the overall SITG commander, said he will convene among the said units today to discuss the specific tasking.
“We need nga matibuok ang trabaho, mahatagan og specific tasking each unit kay i-involve man nato ang CIDG, Regional Crime Laboratory, CIU, mismo ang station. May specific tasking na yan,” he said.
Police will be coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - 7 to conduct with a parallel investigation.
Ligan said they are hoping to personally talk with the wife of the victim since she knows his husband well.
“Wala pa nato ma-interview personally ang asawa. We need to interview her because she is the best source. Siya may nakabalo sa iyang bana. We are hoping nga ma-estorya siya,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO director for operations, said the wife opted to answer the questions through a letter.
Parilla said the investigators sent the questions two days ago and as of yesterday, they have not received any response yet. — GMR (FREEMAN)
