PRO-7 vows crushing drug syndicates within the year

Mae Fhel K. Gom-os - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — With about six major drug syndicates operating in Central Visayas, police have already dismantled the three while they will be going after the other three before the year ends.

Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, Police Regional Office (PRO-7) director, disclosed that there are six major drug syndicates operating in Central Visayas particularly in Cebu.

“Out of that six, three were already dismantled and we are still looking for the three other criminal gangs that we are going to dismantle before the end of this year,” he said.

During their second simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operations (SACLEO), Ferro said it yielded good numbers of seized shabu and arrested individuals.

On the three-day operation, police in the region have seized around 1,000 grams of shabu and arrested at least 575 individuals including most wanted persons in a total of 279 operations.

“Most of the arrested individuals in this three-day operation were high-valued individuals, whether they belong to the regional level or to the city level,” said Ferro.

He said they will be giving rewards to the deserving law enforcement personnel in Cebu City as they have been the forefront in the fight against illegal drugs.

“We’re still investigating the sources. So hopefully, we could go to the bottom of the sources and uproot it, and probably we could stop the proliferation or we could minimize the proliferation of drugs in Cebu,” he said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
