3 killed, 1 injured in shooting spree
CEBU, Philippines — Three men died while another one is in critical condition when a heated argument among neighbors resulted in a shooting spree at Sitio Kintolimbo, Upper Calajo-an, Minglanilla, Cebu Friday night.
The deceased victims were identified as Engr. Roberto Llanillo, 53, and his son, Malbert Llanillo, 26.
A German national Christian Metz, 35, who just intervened to pacify the arguing parties, is still in critical condition.
The suspect, Edwin Ferguson, 32, also died after resisting arrest, which forced the operatives to shoot him.
Police Chief Master Sergeant Ronjie Lopez of the Minglanilla Police Station said the victims and the suspect were just renting in the same apartment.
Witnesses said the victims were just staying outside of their room when the suspect suddenly arrived, and later an argument ensued.
The older Llanillo reportedly tried to pacify them and assisted the suspect back to his room.
However, Ferguson reportedly stepped back and pulled his firearm then shot the engineer.
The engineer’s son and the foreigner tried to help the victim but were also shot.
The engineer died instantly after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head while the son died at the hospital.
As of press time, Metz was still in the hospital.
Lopez said it appears that the suspect had no intention of shooting another person, according to those who witnessed the incident.
“Wala gyud siya’y intention nga mopusil og laing tawo kay moingon man siya “wa moy labot. wa moy labot”,” Lopez said.
The responding police officers had asked the suspect to submit himself, but the latter stayed in his room.
The authorities decided to barge into the suspect’s room but the latter reportedly pulled out his gun, forcing the policemen to fire at him.
The suspect was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
The police had recovered a .38 revolver the suspect used in shooting the victims.
Lopez said the suspect reportedly was outraged at the insults he received from the victims.
The police, however, are still continuing its investigation. — GAN (FREEMAN)
