Barili holds 1-day mourning
CEBU, Philippines — The town of Barili is holding one-day mourning today in deference of the untimely passing of Mayor Marlon Garcia.
Newly installed Mayor Julieto Flores has issued a memorandum to all the employees and occupants of the municipal building to pay tribute to their late mayor.
The Philippine flag will be placed on half-mast in public places in Barili.
“This is to pay tribute to all his hard work and dedication while serving as Municipal Mayor,” Flores said in his memorandum.
In line with this, the offices at the municipal building including the court and national government agencies offices will be closed from the transacting public.
The remains of Mayor Garcia is laid at the municipal hall where his relatives, friends and co-workers can pay their last respect.
“The required health protocols shall be strictly implemented during the said event. Personnel involved in disaster and emergency response shall be on standby,” Flores said.
Garcia died on September 6, 2020, five days after his brother, former Dumanjug mayor Nelson Garcia passed away.
The cause of death of both Marlon and Nelson is still unknown to the public.
Marlon was one of the mayors in Cebu that got infected by coronavirus disease but their family in an earlier report said he was already tested negative last August.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday said their family will hold a press conference next week. — GMR (FREEMAN)
