In his State of the City Address (SOCA), Chan said that among the courses open for deserving students are Bachelor of Science in Criminology; Bachelor of Science in Development Communication; Tourism Management and Performing Arts.

Chan said the qualified scholars will enjoy the free education from the start until they graduate.

Ma. Cynthia King-Chan, first lady and chairperson of the city’s tourism, cultural and historical affairs commission, said that tourism management and performing arts were included as part of her advocacy to promote tourism and culture and arts.

The mayor said the city government is committed to fully support the education of 100 poor but deserving Oponganons. He encouraged the city residents to avail of the rare opportunity to get a college education for free.

To qualify for the program, one must be a resident of the city, a bonafide senior high school student from any private or public schools in Lapu-Lapu City, has not availed any educational assistance/scholarship offered by the government, willing to enroll for the upcoming school year 2020-2021, and whose family income has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
