Chinese groups donate protective gear, rice

CEBU, Philippines —  Three Chinese business chambers recently donated personal protective equipment (PPE), masks and truckloads of rice to various local government units (LGUs) in Cebu amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

They were Cebu Xinhua Chamber of Commerce Inc., Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.-Cebu Chapter, and the Philippines Chee Kung Tong Chinese Free Mason Inc.

They donated the goods to the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay, Cebu Province, and the Police Regional Office-7.

They also donated PPE and masks to four hospitals---Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City and  Mandaue District Hospital and the Eversley Child’s Sanitarium, in Mandaue City.

“May the epidemic be ended as soon as possible, and China and the Philippines will be in the same boat together to overcome the difficulties and help each other," they said in a statement.

His Excellency Jia Li, the Consul General of China in Cebu; Vicente Lu, president of FCCCII-Cebu Chapter; and Henry Li, chairman of PCKTCFMI, were among those who led the turnover of donations.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and its private partners recently donated PPE for the garbage collectors of Cebu City.

Donated items include 100 single-cartridge respirators, 100 pairs of safety gloves, 100 drums for special wastes, and 100 pieces coverall.  KQD (FREEMAN)
