Mandaue City vendors get rental discounts
CEBU, Philippines — Effective yesterday until November 30, store rentals at the New Mandaue City Public Market are now reduced by 10 percent and 20 percent, depending on the section occupied by the vendors.
The City Council approved the measure during its regular session last week.
The newly-approved ordinance was authored by City Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman of the committee on market and abattoir.
The ordinance states that there shall be a 20 percent discount to be given the regular store rental fees from RTW and Appliance/Utencil and 10 percent discount to store rental fees from carenderia and painitan of the market.
For the said period, the daily rate of the stall rentals of the sections shall be as follows:
a) Carenderia - from P60 per day to P54 per day
b) Painitan - from P30 per day to P27 per day
c) RTW (Regular) - from 70 per day to P56 per day
d) RTW (Prime) - from P90 per day to P72 per day
e) A/U (Regular) - from P70 per day to P56 per day
f) A/U (Prime) - from P90 per day to P72 per day
The discounted rates were made upon the recommendation of the market management heeding to the plea of the stall owners of these sections.
“Nihangyo man ang mga stallholders kay mingaw pa ang ilang area (The stallholders requested for the discount while they are experiencing bleak sales),” said Gil Retuya, chief of staff of Councilor Lumapas.
The P400-million new market was formally opened to the public last August 28.
It has a total of 1,212 stalls with a daily rental that ranges from P35 to P110.
The new market was constructed during the mayorship of Mayor Jonas Cortes in 2013 and was finished in August this year just when Cortes is back as mayor.
Cortes had said that the new market is his gift to the Mandauehanons who, for the longest time, have no proper market after the market located at the back of the Mandaue Sports Complex was destroyed by the 2013 earthquake. (FREEMAN)
