CCPO welcomes new police chief

CEBU, Philippines — It is work as usual for the cops at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), as they welcome a new director to replace retired Police Colonel Royina Garma, who was known for her feistiness in policing.

CCPO Spokesperson Police Captain Arieza Otida, in a press briefing yesterday, said they can adjust with any leadership style, plans, and programs that Garma’s successor, Colonel Gemma Vinluan, may implement.

She said that what matters is the welfare of the city police headquarters and how they can continue the anti-criminality drive, community relations, and over-all peace and order situation in Cebu City.

“This is work for us, and whatever plans that our new City Director may want to implement, we will comply. Wala sad problema sa amoa ang leadership style,” Otida said.

She said though that it will be good move to continue the “Itug-An Ni CD” program, as the communication arm of CCPO.

“Dako ang tabang sa page when it comes to operations in illegal drugs.  Nahimo siya na communication arm sa CCPO,” she said.

Vinluan, who is a classmate of Garma in the Philippine National Police Academy Kapanalig Class of 1997, will assume as director today.

The ceremonial assumption of office will be attended by representatives from the church, barangay, and the local government unit.

It is expected that Mayor Edgardo Labella will grace the ceremony as guest speaker.

Garma will also be present during the ceremony.

She has taken her oath as the general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) this week, after receiving her official order last June 30.

Police Lt. Colonel Lorenzo Batuan, the Deputy City Director for Administration, has temporarily acted as operations-in-charge while waiting for orders from the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame for Vinluan’s position. — GAN (FREEMAN)
