Apura asks residents to support wife’s admin
CEBU, Philippines — Former Carcar mayor Nicepuro Apura has urged the residents to continue with their unwavering support for the city government in order for the progress that started during his term would be carried on by the present administration.
Apura delivered his third State of the City Address (SOCA), this time as the incumbent Vice Mayor of Carcar.
He has served three terms as Carcar mayor. His wife, Mercy, has replaced him as mayor.
Nicepuro added that several infrastructure projects were initiated during his term. These include the construction of a new and improved city public market and a terminal that are set to operate 24/7 upon completion.
These key establishments are aimed at supporting the local tourism industry and empowering small-time local businesses in Carcar.
He also highlighted during the SOCA the city’s efforts in providing social services that are more accessible especially to the marginalized sectors, supporting Carcar’s agriculture industry and the highly noted implementation of the purok system in Carcar.
“Ninety nine percent jud ilaha ning i-continue. I’m very optimistic na mapadayon kaayo ni nila,” he said.
Mercy, for her part, said she plans of finishing what the former administration has started in terms of infrastructure.
She added that because Carcar is widely known for its heritage, she plans to link this tourist attraction to Carcar’s economic base which is agriculture.
She also highlighted the difficulty in implementing a project if the city leaders are divided.
“Hasol-hasol ba. Samok-samok ba. I’m hoping that with this term, it goes smoother,” she said.
Mercy also promised to realize bigger “dreams” for Carcar.
The State of the City address is part of the week-long celebration of Carcar’s Charter Day. (FREEMAN)
