CEBU, Philippines — Born in Cebu on July 9, 1906, Jose V. Rodriguez earned a degree in medicine from the University of Santo Tomas. He had his medical intern in clinics in France and Spain and was a professor at Instituto Rubio in Madrid. He was also professor of medicine at the University of Santo Tomas.
In 1941, he was elected congressman of then Cebu’s Seventh District but the war cut short his term. He was again elected to the same office in 1946.
Rodriguez served as mayor of Cebu City from December 7, 1953 to November 16, 1955.
His incumbency saw the birth of Cebu Boy’s Town in Punta Princesa and several other public improvements. (FREEMAN)
